From organising bake sales and therapy dog visits to working on reception and writing flu campaign proposals, Davina Liston’s student placement at International Medical Management (IMM) is giving her a real taste of business life.

Davina has embarked on a year-long, full-time placement with IMM as a Business Development Executive – part of her BA (Hons) Business with Marketing degree.

The 20-year-old is the latest in a long line of impressive students coming through IMM’s Bon Accord Square doors – with work placements from RGU and Paris School of Business beginning back in 1992.

IMM offers occupational health services including lifestyle and wellness medicals, ensuring early detection of health conditions such as diabetes, cardiac disease, lung disease and certain types of cancer.

Davina, who is originally from Huntly and went to The Gordon Schools, said: “Every single day is so different. I’ve been involved in staff engagement days, organised a dog visit and a bake sale. I’ve written flu campaign proposals, sent out circulars for urgent medics, and worked on reception.

“I’m fully getting a taste of everything. This kind of practical experience is invaluable – completely different to coursework and exams. Developing these business, finance and marketing skills is really helping to build my confidence.

“IMM is well known for its commitment to developing and supporting students and I’ve seen that already. I’m learning so much and everyone is eager to help me do that.”

Ashleigh McDonald, general manager at IMM said: “It’s important to us here to do what we can to develop students as they embark on their careers.

“We’re eager to give a broad overview of the company and also allow students to develop their own skills that will set them apart as their business journey commences.

“Davina has quickly proven herself to be another excellent addition to the team and we look forward to working closely with her over the next year.”
