A LEADING operator of inshore workboats based in the North East of Scotland is marking its milestone tenth anniversary by lining up opportunities in the renewables and energy transition sectors which look set to create new jobs.
Operating from headquarters in Fordoun and from the quaysides in Aberdeen and Montrose, McLachlan Marine was founded in 2011 and quickly grew to employ a team of 20 staff plus a band of sub-contracted crew whose number fluctuates due to the seasonal nature of operations. It is anticipated that core numbers will increase in the months ahead as additional personnel is required to fulfill a growing number of projects.
McLachlan Marine is the self-styled: “Swiss army knife of workboat operators” and remains independently operated by Managing Director, Ruari McLachlan, offering a unique mix of workboats and crew transfer vessels operating from Aberdeen. It recently celebrated a decade in business with a visit from Aberdeen Lord Provost, Barney Crockett who boarded the company’s vessel Ocean Supporter to congratulate Ruari and the team.
Currently, McLachlan Marine is focusing on repurposing older vessels in its fleet of four workboats for the renewables market. Here it is using vast experience gained in other markets such as crew transfer and the multi-million-pound Aberdeen Harbour expansion project to take the company to the next level as it seeks to emerge from the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic.
