A special exhibition train marking 200 years of Britain’s railways is heading to the north-east, with a two-day stop at Aberdeen Station on 19–20 October as part of its Scottish tour.
Named Inspiration, the train comprises four themed carriages that take visitors through railway heritage, hands-on engineering and future careers:
- Railway Firsts – landmark moments in rail history
- Wonderlab on Wheels – interactive experiments and engineering demos
- Your Railway Future – showcasing diverse and lesser-known careers in rail
- Partnership Zone – milestones from Scotland’s railway story
The touring exhibit is part of the Railway 200 programme, inspired by the 1825 opening of the Stockton & Darlington Railway. After opening the Scottish leg with two days at Glasgow Central, the train calls at Bo’ness & Kinneil Railway (13–14 Oct), Strathspey Railway (16–17 Oct), Aberdeen (19–20 Oct) and Edinburgh Waverley (22–23 Oct).
Liam Sumpter, managing director of Network Rail Scotland, said: “Rail has played a defining role in Scotland’s story over the past 200 years. The arrival of the Inspiration train is a moment to reflect on that legacy, as well as recognise the railway’s continued contribution.”
Admission details and on-board activities will be signposted at each station stop.
