JCE Energy Ltd. are delighted to announce the completion of a multi-phase project involving the design, manufacture, engineering and supply of various solar power packages for wellhead platforms located offshore Indonesia in the Java Sea.

The systems were designed to generate and distribute green power to a number of critical loads on-site, including telecommunications systems, local instrumentation, aids to navigation, process equipment, and motors.

The objective was to replace the diesel generators, traditionally used for sources of power on wellhead platforms, with fully autonomous solar power systems, reducing CO2 emissions in addition to operational and maintenance (O&M) costs.

This solution will bring long-term benefits to the assets in the region, including the sustainable generation of clean power for years to come and a successful model for efficiently operating unmanned platforms during both lighthouse and production mode.

The scope of the seven-figure contract included the design and manufacture of ATEX & IECEx Zone 1 certified solar panels, charge controllers, battery enclosures and monitoring systems, charging skids, and power distribution systems suitable for installation & use within hazardous areas.

In order to guarantee four days of continuous power in the event of no sunshine or darkness, a substantial battery pack was built to ensure the continuity of operations. With an expected system lifespan of over 15 years and many environmental challenges, a NiCad battery solution was chosen to meet this project requirement.

The batteries will be monitored using a bespoke designed Battery Monitoring System (BMS), providing operators with a comprehensive view of the battery status, signals and alarms, in real-time to detect any potential issues in advance.

The complete packages were manufactured and tested at our custom-built facility in Aberdeen, ready to be installed and commissioned on site.

Marco Gheza, General Manager of JCE Energy stated, “The successful completion of this project marks a significant milestone in our expansion within the South East Asian market. Delivering another off-grid renewable power solution within a challenging environment demonstrates our continued ability to engineer complex, reliable and high quality systems for our clients”.
