A local Aberdeen children’s charity has received a major funding boost thanks to KCA Deutag.

After their first year of working with Charlie House as their charity partner, staff at KCA Deutag raised £10,000 for the charity, with the amount then generously matched by the company to make a fantastic donation of £20,000.

KCA Deutag’s Aberdeen office selected the organisation as its North East charity partner in 2017 with staff organising themed bake sales and raffles, in addition to taking on various sporting challenges such as Ride the North and the Beast Race, to help raise much needed funds.

KCA Deutag also sponsored the charity’s first Pony Axes event at Balmedie Beach.  The company’s employees were able to support the event giving them the opportunity to meet the children and their families and see for themselves the difference their fundraising can make. The Activity Club sessions organised by the charity provide the children with unique experiences outside their normal routine and a chance for them to meet others in similar circumstances to themselves.

Commenting on the partnership, Lynne Clow, KCA Deutag’s Senior Vice President for Human Resources said: “We are delighted to be partnered with such an outstanding charity as Charlie House.  The support that they provide to children and their families in such difficult circumstances is exceptional.  Charitable giving is very important not only to us as a company, but to everyone who works here, and I am proud of our staff who have risen to the challenge, raising substantial funds for Charlie House through their various activities.”

Established in 2011, Charlie House provides support for families with children who have complex disabilities and life-limiting conditions. They do this through their Activities Club, Sibling Club, Kielder Activity Short Break and Community Team.   Their vision has always been to have a purpose-built facility in Aberdeen for children and young people in the North-East of Scotland.  This project is in the first phase of planning.

Lynn Batham, Fundraising Team Lead at Charlie House, added: “We are very grateful to KCA Deutag for their extremely generous donation. KCA Deutag’s staff are full of enthusiasm and have really embraced their fundraising efforts; it has been an absolute pleasure to work with them during 2017. We would like to thank everyone involved for their commitment and support and we look forward with great excitement to the year ahead as we embark on another year of fundraising with the team at KCA Deutag.”

This donation will allow us to expand our current services and help us to reach out to more families, offering them vital support when they need it most.  This relationship has also given Charlie House exposure to a wider audience and raised our profile, which is invaluable to us.”
