Tim Eagle MSP has welcomed an end to Keith’s “15 months of travel hell” after work to repair the town’s Union Bridge was finally completed.
The Buckie-based MSP said the milestone will allow Keith’s economy to drive forward again as workers packed up for the final time after finishing repairs to the A96 bridge.
It marks the end of a long journey of disruption for Keith’s residents and businesses.
Temporary traffic lights were installed at the bridge in July 2024 when a retaining wall fell into the River Isla.
Engineers Amey then began repairs at the start of March, with the original aim of finishing by mid-May, but the works were delayed on multiple occasions.
Now, 15 months on, the repairs are finally complete, allowing commuters full access over the bridge.
Buckie-based Scottish Conservative MSP Tim Eagle said: “The completion of the works to Union Bridge marks the end of 15 months of travel hell for Keith residents.
In Case You Missed it:
“For more than a year, Keith has had to endure endless disruption which has severely hampered the town’s economy.
“I am pleased all the issues have now been resolved and the works are complete, which will allow Keith to drive forward again.
“But questions must now be asked as to why the Scottish Government allowed this project to spiral for so long on such a key route for the North East.”
