Aberdeen dessert brand Krepes ’N’ Kones is set to open its second branch this week, bringing its popular range of crepes, waffles, milkshakes and Dubai chocolate desserts to Portlethen. The new outlet, located inside the Asda Superstore, will officially open on Friday 28 November from 5pm to 10pm with a launch day offer of buy one, get one free across all desserts.
The expansion follows the success of the business’ first shop on George Street, which quickly built a reputation for high quality desserts and generous portions. Siblings Madiha and Ehsan Iqbal, who co-own and manage the brand, said the decision to grow the business was driven by strong customer support and a desire to bring something new to the south of the city.
Speaking ahead of the opening, co-owner Madiha Iqbal said the journey from their first shop to this second branch has been shaped by community enthusiasm.
“When we opened on George Street, our vision was simply to create a cosy spot where people could enjoy desserts made with care. The response exceeded anything we imagined. People connected not just with the desserts but with the experience, and that encouraged us to grow. Opening in Portlethen felt like the natural next step because it is a vibrant, welcoming community where we felt Krepes ’N’ Kones could really become part of people’s everyday lives.”
Among the menu items making the move south is the brand’s popular Dubai chocolate range, which has become one of its biggest attractions. The rich, melting chocolate blends flavours inspired by the Middle East with the style of desserts favoured by customers in the north-east.
“Our Dubai chocolate range is special because it brings something you simply cannot find anywhere else locally,” Madiha said. “The inspiration comes from everywhere. Our travels, flavours we grew up with, global dessert trends and even feedback from customers. We love experimenting, and we never want to stop pushing creativity.”
The pair say the Portlethen branch represents a significant milestone for them as independent business owners.
“For us, expanding into Portlethen is proof that hard work and passion pay off,” they added. “It shows how far a small idea can grow. We hope the new shop becomes more than a dessert spot. We want it to be a place where families celebrate, where friends catch up, and where people feel welcome to treat themselves. Portlethen has a close-knit feel and we are excited to add to that by bringing new flavours, new jobs and something different for the community.”
The business plans to continue growing in a way that maintains its handmade quality and personal touch. Future ambitions include more signature ranges, new collaborations and potentially further expansion into other parts of the north-east.
“The most rewarding part of this journey has been seeing people enjoy what we create,” Ehsan said. “Every time someone brings their family in or tells us they travelled just to try our desserts, it reminds us why we started. We want to keep building on that and bring Krepes ’N’ Kones to more communities in the future.”
Krepes ’N’ Kones Portlethen will open seven days a week from 11am to 10pm following the launch event.
