ABERDEEN’s AOC Productions are taking the Lambeth Walk to the Tivoli Theatre next week with their upcoming production of ‘Me And My Girl’.
Audiences are set to be whisked away for this production of the classic 1930s musical, which revolves around cockney Bill Snibson who unexpectedly inherits the title of the Earl of Hareford and finds himself part of an outrageously upper-class family he never knew existed. To gain his inheritance, he must become a ‘fit and proper gentleman’ – but things do not go to plan.
The show’s famous songs including ‘Leaning On A Lamppost’, ‘The Sun Has Got his Hat On’ and ‘The Lambeth Walk’ made it a big hit on original release, and it was even more successful in the mid 80s, winning two Olivier Awards for the show and actor Robert Lindsey, as well as three Tony Awards for its 1987 Broadway run.
The AOC Productions version features a cast of 31 as well as an 11 piece orchestra.
Director Aaron Thom commented: “We are all thrilled to be bringing the classic musical Me and My Girl to the Tivoli stage next week. The show will delight audiences young and old because it has such a witty script, which was updated by the inimitable Stephen Fry. It promises to have lavish costumes and toe-tapping musical numbers for all to enjoy.”

AOC Productions have been a part of Aberdeen’s theatre scene for over 80 years since forming as Aberdeen Opera Company in 1940, with recent productions including last year’s ‘Calendar Girls’ and 2019’s ‘Shrek The Musical’.
The Tivoli Theatre also has a storied history, having been founded in 1872 as Her Majesty’s Opera House when it played host to legendary performers such as Charlie Chaplin and Stan Laurel before closure in the 1960s. It was revived in 2009 and is now a fully restored multi-functional theatre venue which still retains its ornate original auditorium.
‘Me & My Girl’ runs from Wednesday 31st May to Saturday 3rd June at 7,30pm with a Saturday matinee at 2.30. Tickets can be purchased via thetivoli.com and https://www.aberdeenperformingarts.com.
