Aberdeen Inspired is urging local businesses to sign up to a food waste initiative in the city centre.
The Business Improvement District is working with Keenan Recycling and EIS Waste Services to provide a cost effective option for businesses within the BID with the aim of increasing recycling and reducing waste to landfill.

Since the partnership began in June last year, more than 76,000kg of food waste has been collected by Keenan Recycling from 12 sites in the city centre. It is hoped that even more organisations will take advantage of the initiative which could reduce expenditure on their waste management services.
Innes Walker, Aberdeen Inspired city centre manager said: “There have been fantastic results so far from our partnership with Keenan Recycling and EIS Waste Services and we would like to build on this and get even more businesses involved with this initiative.“This is a great way to bring in positive change about how trade waste is managed by providing more regular collections of trade rubbish, while also helping businesses to reduce their spending on waste management and of course, improve their green energy credentials.”
Food waste services are part of the partnership between Aberdeen Inspired, Keenan Recycling and EIS, which includes the supply, collection and treatment of containers which meet all the requirements of Waste Scotland Regulations.

The Trinity Centre is one of the sites involved in the initiative, with more than 2,100kg of food waste collected from June last year to this month (July).
Kenneth Bruce, Operations Manager at the Trinity Centre, said: “This was a main focus to form part of our CSR to become a better retailer and take the responsibility associated with the zero waste Scotland Act and implement a system where we could contribute in a positive way to waste management.
“We have seen over time a decrease in the amount of food waste that has been produced but this has only been possible with the implementation of a strong collection system that we operate here at the centre and the relationships we have with our retailers. Keenan’s has been at the forefront to help us deliver this robust program of waste management.”
