SNP Westminster Rural Affairs spokesperson and Aberdeenshire North and Moray East MP Seamus Logan has reiterated his support for Scottish farmers and producers at today’s events to mark ‘Back British Farming’ day, where he met with NFUS President Andrew Connon.

The NFU’s Back British Farming Day is an annual event celebrating the food and farming sector.  Launched in 2015, the day provides an opportunity for politicians and the public to show their support for farmers and growers, and the work they do 365 days a year to feed the nations and care for our iconic countryside.

Now in its tenth year, activity over the day will highlight to government the importance of agriculture to communities and the economy.  Mr Logan was one of the MPs to be presented with the iconic wheatsheaf pin badge to show support for farming, and which he wore during Prime Minister’s Questions.

Commenting, Seamus Logan MP said:

“I was pleased to support this important event celebrating the contribution farming makes to our food security and the economy.

“Scotland is responsible for some of the finest food and drink there is so it’s important that is recognised in the approach of government to the industry.

“At the same time, there was a clear message from today that the so-called Family Farm Tax needs to be halted and the UK Government needs to rethink the impact this will have on the farming industry long-term and indeed the impact already being felt in terms of farmers questioning whether to invest in their business.”
