SNP Rural Affairs Westminster spokesperson Seamus Logan MP has welcomed a report issued by the cross-party Commons Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee which calls on the Government to delay announcing its final agricultural property relief (APR) and business property relief (BPR) reforms.

Commenting, Seamus Logan MP said:

“This is an important contribution to the campaign to get the UK Government to change its stance on this issue.

“The Select Committee Report highlights that the changes announced in the Budget last autumn were made without adequate consultation, impact assessment or an affordability assessment.  This confirms what farmers and the NFUS have been saying all along about the impact of this on family farms, business planning, and the potential risks to food security.

“I will be writing to the Secretary of State, Steve Reed, asking that he take on board the findings of this report and urging him to press his colleagues in the UK Treasury to change their stance.”
