Local MP Seamus Logan has welcomed confirmation from Aberdeenshire Council that repair works are to start immediately, subject to weather conditions, at Portsoy Harbour.

Part of the harbour wall at the historic location was breached over New Year leading to concerns for the structure.  Now, in an e-mail to the MP, Aberdeenshire Council have confirmed they have started remedial work yesterday to protect the site before a more formal rebuild is undertaken.

Commenting, Seamus Logan MP said:

“I very much welcome the swift action being taken by Aberdeenshire Council here, particularly when it is facing other significant challenges at this time.

“Portsoy Harbour is vitally important to the local economy in terms of tourism, for the Scottish Traditional Boat Festival, and more recently as a popular setting for film and television which brings benefits to the local economy.

“I hope that the remediation works can be concluded soon to allow longer-term repairs to be carried out.”
