A substantial fire erupted on Sunday, March 29, 2026, at the abandoned Stoneywood Mill in Aberdeen, prompting a significant response from emergency services. The incident, located in the Stoneywood Terrace area, saw fire crews battle the blaze for several hours before it was brought under control.
The alarm was raised shortly after 5:20 pm on Sunday. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) dispatched four fire appliances, a high-reach vehicle, and other support vehicles to the scene. Police Scotland officers were also in attendance, issuing advice for the public to avoid the area and for nearby residents to remain indoors, keeping windows and doors closed.
In Case You Missed it:
Crews worked to extinguish the fire, with the SFRS concluding operations and leaving the scene by 8:30 pm. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
Stoneywood Mill, a historic paper production factory, ceased operations permanently in September 2022 after entering administration, marking the end of over 250 years of papermaking in the region. Since its closure, the extensive site has remained vacant and fallen into a state of disrepair, being added to the list of “vacant and derelict” land in 2024.
This is not the first fire at the disused mill; emergency services previously responded to another significant blaze at the site in August 2024, which an investigation later determined to have no suspicious circumstances.
