As Volunteers’ Week 2025 (2nd – 8th June) draws to a close, Aberdeen-based charity the Mamacita Foundation is making an urgent plea to the North East community – not only for food donations, but for volunteer drivers who can spare just one hour on a Sunday to deliver vital food parcels.
The Mamacita Foundation, based at Hilton Convention Centre, 13 Smithfield Road, is dedicated to alleviating food poverty and supporting families across the North East of Scotland—including migrants, asylum seekers, members of Black and Minority Ethnic (BAME) groups, and those facing extreme hardship.
Vivian Draghici, Founder of the Mamacita Foundation says, “Volunteers are the lifeblood of our work, and on the final days of Volunteers’ Week, we’re asking anyone with access to a car to consider giving just one hour a week to help deliver food to those who cannot reach our centre – especially the elderly and those with mobility issues. It’s a small commitment that makes an enormous difference.”
Vivian continues, “Volunteering is not only regarding, but it’s a powerful way to connect with your community,” Vivian added. “This Volunteers’ Week, we invite you to be part of something truly meaningful.”
The foundation currently runs a foodbank every Tuesday evening, but demand is rising sharply. With more drivers, the charity hopes to extend services and reach more families in need.
In addition to its foodbank, the Mamacita Foundation offers employability training, a CV clinic, emergency aid, basic supplies, and regular social events aimed at boosting mental wellbeing and inclusion. The team also continues to appeal for non-perishable food donations, such as tinned goods, pasta, rice and cereal, to support those struggling due to the rising cost of living.
Food donations can be dropped off at the Hilton Convention Centre on:
· Tuesdays, 9am – 7pm
· Thursdays, 10am – 12pm
