RISK management expert Marex has landed a deal with drilling contractor COSL Drilling Europe for safety assessment work on their low-emission drilling rig the Pioneer.
Marex is conducting a thorough review of the Pioneer’s current safety case, with the first two-day workshop with rig crew taking place last month (April).
The project marks a new partnership between COSL and Marex and will take around two months. The review, for a summary submission to the Health and Safety Executive, provides a level of confidence that the current safety case continues to be fundamentally sound.
Currently working in the Central North Sea, the Pioneer is a semi-submersible drilling rig designed for use in harsh environments in waters of up to 750metres deep.
COSL QHSE Director Kjetil Andrew Tangen said: “We engaged with Marex for the UK safety case thorough review for the COSL Pioneer.
“We have previous experience working with Marex, and were very satisfied with the work performed and commitment shown by Marex during the process.”

COSL Drilling Europe operates four rigs – the Pioneer, Innovator, Prospector and Promoter – and is headquartered in Stavanger, Norway. It has a proven track record in the North Sea for efficient and high-performing rigs and aims to provide climate neutral drilling services by 2025.
