ABERDEEN entrepreneur Martin Gilbert is selling one of his two homes in the city.
The nine-bedroom, seven-bathroom mansion is in Rubislaw Den North, one of the Granite City’s wealthiest streets.
The Press & Journal says Mr Gilbert and his wife, Fiona, have put Cramond House on the market at offers over £2.5million.
According to property agent Savills, the family home is ideal for “entertaining at scale”.
Cramond House is a late 19th Century property.
Mr Gilbert told the P&J he is in no hurry to sell the property.
The businessman and his wife, Fiona, have decided they no longer need the nine-bedroom house. They have another, smaller home in Milltimber. And the couple spend much of their time in London, where they also own property.
Mrs Gilbert is head of radiology at Cambridge University’s School of Clinical Medicine. Boardroom roles in the financial-services industry keep her husband busy down south.
Three grown-up children – Jamie, Mhairi and Kirstin – flew the Aberdeen nest long ago.
Cramond House is, therefore, surplus to the family’s requirements these days.
Mr Gilbert said: “It’s too big a house for us now, but it’s an absolutely stunning home.”
The mansion has been in the family “20 maybe 30 years” and had extensive refurbishment during that time.
And, insisting his commitment to the Granite City is as strong as ever, Mr Gilbert said: “I am still a massive supporter of Aberdeen. It’s a city that is on its way up again.
“Resurgence in offshore waters and the new (enlarged) port are both very positive.”
In Case You Missed it:
Cramond House was designed by renowned Victorian-era architects Matthews and Mackenzie and also boasts six reception rooms and a gym.
Savills hailed the sale of the home as an “exceptional opportunity to acquire the largest detached granite mansion house in the locale”.
Mr Gilbert, 67, was the co-founder and former chief executive of Aberdeen Asset Management, which merged with Standard Life to eventually become Edinburgh-headquartered abrdn.
