Mearns & Gill, the Aberdeen-based creative marketing agency, announces today (Thursday 6th November 2025) the acquisition of the Scottish Self-Build and Renovation annual events, alongside its online trades’ directory and job referral portal, from Etiom Limited for an undisclosed figure.

The acquisition marks a new chapter for Scotland’s leading platform dedicated to self-builders, renovators, and home improvers. With immediate effect, Mearns & Gill has assumed full ownership and operational responsibility for the events, which will return in 2026 with confirmed dates of 7th March for the Thainstone Exchange, Inverurie event and 19th September for the Macdonald Aviemore Resort event.

Established as a trusted name in event management, Mearns & Gill brings over 85 years of experience delivering high-quality exhibitions, conferences, and creative marketing projects across multiple sectors. The Carden Place-based company intends to build on the strong foundations laid by Etiom, ensuring that the Scottish Self-Build and Renovation events, taking place in Aberdeenshire and Aviemore, continue to grow and deliver exceptional value for exhibitors, sponsors, and visitors alike.

Gavin Esslemont, Managing Director of Etiom, says, “We are incredibly proud of what Scottish Self-Build and Renovation has achieved over almost a decade, and we’re delighted that Mearns & Gill will be taking the reins. Their experience, reputation, and commitment to excellence make them the perfect fit to continue developing these events. We’re confident they will take the platform to new heights and ensure it continues to thrive for years to come.”

Michael Wilson, Managing Director of Mearns & Gill, adds, “The Scottish Self-Build and Renovation events have established themselves as a must-attend for anyone embarking on a self-build or home improvement journey. We’re thrilled to welcome them into the Mearns & Gill portfolio and look forward to working with the community, exhibitors, and suppliers to deliver even more engaging and informative events in 2026 and beyond. Our focus will be on building upon the success Etiom has achieved and ensuring a smooth transition for everyone involved.”

As part of the transition, Etiom will continue to support Mearns & Gill to ensure a seamless handover and operational continuity.
