Mental Health Aberdeen (MHA) has announced that it will close with immediate effect as of Thursday 24th July 2025. The decision follows a comprehensive strategic review by the Board of Trustees and external consultation to consider all possible options for the charity’s future operations.

MHA has provided services for individuals across the North-east of Scotland, including Aberdeen Counselling and Information Service (ACIS), One To One Deeside, ACIS Youth, as well as community projects in Torry, Calsayseat, and the Amputee project. The charity’s leadership reports that despite efforts to diversify funding and adjust strategy, sustained financial challenges have made it impossible to continue operations. Factors cited include increased demand for services, reduction or withdrawal of funding, lack of certainty around contract renewals, and rising operational costs, including higher National Insurance contributions.

All MHA services, shops, and the head office will close with immediate effect. The liquidation process is being managed by MHA, the UK accountancy and business advisory firm, which is unrelated to the charity. Enquiries about the liquidation may be directed to Michael Reid, Partner at MHA (Email: [email protected]). For queries about fundraising or upcoming events, the public can contact [email protected] or telephone 01224 590510.

MHA is working to refer clients to other support providers and acknowledges the contributions of staff, volunteers, partners, and supporters. The charity’s closure is presented as part of a broader trend affecting mental health organisations facing increased demand and limited resources. The statement asks policymakers and funders to consider the need for greater investment in mental health support.
