The firm has made a number of places available at a nominal cost on its expert Extended Reach Drilling Course for drilling professionals who have been out of work for three months or more.
Merlin says this will not only give them a positive use for their time, but offer the opportunity to upskill and network while gaining the specialist training.
The courses will run in Aberdeen and London from May until September, and are taught by the engineering experts behind some of the most challenging wells in the world.
Material covered includes the critical success factors to drill trouble-free high angle, extended reach and complex wells and is aimed mainly at those with drilling experience whether engineers, superintendents or service personnel.
Iain Hutchison of Merlin ERD said: “The drilling industry is close-knit and we understand the challenges people in it are facing with the current low oil price.
“These subsidised course places are a practical way to help people improve their chances of re-employment and it feels like the right thing to do to.”
