Metis Partners specialises in the assessment, exploitation, valuation, monetisation and sale of intellectual property (“IP”) assets in companies ranging from formal IP rights such as patents, trademarks and design rights to employee knowledge, organisational knowledge, R&D and corporate brand strategies.

Stephen Robertson, Metis Partners chief executive, said: “Aberdeen is a global hub for technological innovation and it is important that companies are fully aware of the potential which can be unlocked from their intellectual assets.

“With oil price fluctuation, the North Sea is at a critical juncture and Metis Partners wants to stand ready to assist vital Scottish and international industries to make the most of the embedded value in their intellectual property.”

The globally-operating company, which also has offices in the UK and USA, will be participating in the 2015 Technology Showcase supported by ITF Energy and industry body UK Oil & Gas.

The conference will be considering the future of the North Sea at a critical time for the industry and experts from oil and gas, as well as automotive, nuclear and aerospace, will discuss how to progress the technology agenda.

The event will allow Metis Partners – prior to opening its new Aberdeen office in the summer – to explain effective recognition and leveraging of IP assets, including steps companies can take to gain control of their IP to secure competitive advantage and increase business valuation.

Metis Partners already has a strong portfolio of clients in the energy sector who have benefited from its expert advice, including Lux Assure, a R&D company developing novel chemical monitoring technologies for the oil and gas industry, Flexlife, a leading provider of technology-led subsea services and products, and Titan Torque, a one-stop solution for all torque and tool requirements, to mention a few.

Metis Partners also work with investors, Matt Anstead, Investment Director of Energy Ventures, said: “It was important for us to understand from the outset what IP vested in the target, how well it was identified and secured, and any risks which could ultimately compromise the target’s value post-buyout. Metis Partners’ IP due diligence helped us identify and map out the critical IP owned and relied upon by the target, associated risks, and provided us with a schedule of actions to mitigate IP risks going forward.”
