AN Aberdeen charity is distributing over 1600 Easter Eggs to disadvantaged children across the city and shire after an overwhelming response to a social media appeal.
AberNecessities, which provides basic essentials to children across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, asked its supporters for donations, so that children living in poverty would be able to enjoy the traditional treats this Easter weekend.

Founder of AberNecessities, Danielle Flecher-Horn, said: “AberNecessities is humbled by the continued support of the community, and the 1600 Easter Eggs, as well as donations of seasonal cuddly toys, will be distributed this week alongside basic essentials to families facing financial hardship.
“Our team are excitedly working their way through the fabulous mountain of Easter Eggs to deliver to local families. This generous act of kindness will bring smiles to the faces of hundreds of local children. We’re always so grateful for the incredible support our community shows us and we express our deepest thanks to everyone who took the time to kindly donate to this appeal, which will help us continue to spread joy and provide meaningful experiences for local children during this special time of year”.
Danielle said the recent Scottish Government report which found that one in four children still live in poverty in Scotland was heart-breaking, but not a surprise: “We know from our own activities that demand for our services continues to grow. In 2023, we supported almost 10,000 in one year alone. That’s 10,000 children in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire who live in poverty and whose parents cannot afford to buy basic essentials such as nappies, formula milk, clothing and basic equipment.
“The cost-of-living crisis continues unabated, but we are working extremely hard, alongside incredible professionals who directly support children and families. We are proud to be able to continue to do this important work.”
