Local MP Seamus Logan paid a visit to the Robotics Club at Strichen School to hear more about their competitive ambitions in the UK and global robotics championships.

Mr Logan took up the invitation to visit Strichen’s Afterschool Robotics Club, which has been running for three years and has already won numerous awards in this time, now qualifying for a 3rd year in a row in a competition to build, drive and pre-code a robot to meet a set game challenge that changes every year.

This challenge is set by VEX IQ who hold an annual worldwide competition. The Robotics Club has already secured top places at this competition’s regional level in Edinburgh and have now set their sights on the UK championships in Telford later this year.

Group leaders, Jack Donaldson and Lorraine Rennie, who is also a teacher at the school, are keep to raise awareness about securing funds for transport and accommodation to help get the teams to Telford in March, and to support building up the necessary resources and equipment needed to run this popular and ambitious Robotics club. Mr Logan was pleased to present the Club with a contribution towards their important fundraising efforts when he visited them this week.

Commenting, Seamus Logan MP said:

“This award-winning Robotics Club at Strichen School has big ambitions and I admire their determination and success at qualifying for a third year running to compete at UK level after securing the top place at the VEX IQ regional championship in Edinburgh.

“I was pleased to support their fundraising efforts with a small donation towards their plans to compete at these championships in March and I wish them well for this great opportunity to develop and progress their skills.  I hope that local businesses or organisations reading about this young groups’ talent and ambition will join with me in helping them raise the funds they need to get them to Telford, and beyond!”
