Aberdeenshire North and Moray East MP Seamus Logan has paid a visit to Happitots Nursery in Boddam to congratulate them on being awarded The Smallest Things Prem Aware Award.

The Smallest Things Prem Aware Award scheme raises awareness of the impact prematurity can have on learning and development and helps schools and early years settings to recognise and meet the needs of families and their children born prematurely.  All 46 Thrive Nursery settings are undertaking the required training and steps needed to become ‘Prem Aware’.

Commenting, Seamus Logan MP said:

“I was pleased to accept the invitation to visit Happitots Nursery and learn more about their ‘Prem-Aware’ Award.

“Our local nurseries provide an important service and it is always good to hear about those who have gained recognition for the work they do, particularly in helping children born prematurely in a nursery setting.

“I’m delighted that Linda, Nicole and the team at Happitots have had this recognition of their work and wish them continued success.”

On receiving the award Linda Adamson, Nursery Manager, said:

“As a Nursery Team we felt this was a very important area to increase our knowledge and understanding in, as more and more children born prematurely join us at nursery. The training, which we’d recommend to all settings, allowed us to fully understand some of the challenges premature babies and their families may face after neonatal intensive care. We were thrilled to meet and have the opportunity to discuss the importance of being ‘Prem Aware’ with our local MP.”

Founder of The Smallest Things Catriona Ogilvy, said:

“We were delighted that Seamus Logan MP visited Happitots Nursery to congratulate the Early Years setting on receiving our Prem Aware Award. Happitots and the Thrive nursery group are leading the way in training staff to support families after neonatal intensive care and to meet the developmental needs that children born prematurely may have. We know how much this will mean to families at Happitots, giving them the reassurance and support they need following an often traumatic journey after neonatal intensive care.”
