M&S to close Stoneywood Foodhall after 10 years

Marks and Spencer has confirmed plans to close its Foodhall in the Stoneywood area of Aberdeen, a decade after the store first opened.

The branch, which launched in 2016, is set to shut after the retailer concluded it is no longer commercially viable. No official closure date has yet been announced.

The decision follows a series of changes to M&S’s presence in Aberdeen, including the closure of its former flagship store on St Nicholas Street last year. That move came after the retailer expanded its offering at its Union Square location.

In a statement, M&S said the Stoneywood site no longer fits with its long-term retail strategy. The company added that the store does not align with its future format vision and would require further investment to remain operational.

The retailer confirmed it is currently consulting with affected staff. It said efforts will be made to redeploy employees to nearby stores, including Union Square, Bridge of Don and Westhill, where possible.

The closure marks another shift in M&S’s ongoing restructuring of its UK store estate, as it focuses on modernising its portfolio and concentrating investment in larger, higher-performing locations.
