Multi-million pound reopening of Aberdeen Science Centre delayed due to Covid-19

Bryan Snelling, ASC chief executive

THE opening of the new Aberdeen Science Centre has been delayed until later in the year due to the impact of Covid-19.

It was scheduled to reopen in June following a £4.7 million redevelopment and revitalisation of the Tramsheds in Constitution Street.

However, ASC chief executive Bryan Snelling, today confirmed the opening will depend on the “ongoing situation.”

He said:  “Like so many other events, the opening will depend on the ongoing situation.

“We will continue to follow government advice to make sure we are compliant with guidelines before making a decision, however we are hoping it will be possible to open in late Summer.

“We are very excited about the reopening and look forward to sharing this with the public as soon as possible.

“In the interim, we remain active on social media with regular educational, informative and fun posts relating to science, maths, engineering and technology on our various social channels, sharing links to other science centres and their resources.”

ASC is currently housed in a temporary base at 107 George Street.

The redevelopment will include the expansion of the exhibition and corporate space and includes an extension and creation of a new mezzanine floor which has almost doubled the previous exhibition space.
