NORTH-east, business leader, coach and host of ‘Scale Her Up’ The Female Entrepreneur podcast, Dr. Brenda Hector is on a mission to support more women to successfully start and grow their businesses and in doing so, close the entrepreneurial gender gap.  Currently, only one in three entrepreneurs in the UK are female and according to 2023 data from the Scottish Government, this drops to one in five in Scotland.

Inspired by turning fifty before the end of the year, Brenda is hosting ‘The Fifty’ event aimed at empowering fifty businesswomen to transform their businesses and achieve 50% growth in turnover.  The workshop-style event is set to take place at Ardoe House Hotel in Aberdeen on the 12th of December 2023.

Dr Brenda Hector shared: “I wanted to celebrate by bringing together fifty female business owners, to share essential knowledge and tools to help unlock their potential.  I believe if we can engage and support women with the right advice, resources and coaching then we can reshape the entrepreneurial landscape, achieving a more balanced gender representation.  Reports suggest if women achieved parity with men in opening and scaling businesses this could add £250bn to the UK economy.”

“Despite data suggesting women-led businesses are on the rise and that they are actually delivering higher financial returns compared to those founded by men, female founders are still struggling to secure investment to enable growth, and are 5 times less likely to scale their business to over £1 million than men.

“Ensuring women have access to the necessary advice and resources is not just about individual success; it’s a pivotal step towards significant economic growth.”

The ‘Fifty’ event is designed to provide participants with a blend of actionable strategies, networking opportunities, and practical insights to overcome challenges and scale their enterprises.
