A north business networking organisation has landed a prestigious national honour – for the second year in a row.
BNI Scotland North (Aberdeen and Highlands) won the Outstanding Performance Net Growth in Chapters prize at the 2018 BNI UK & Ireland Directors’ Conference in Dublin. It won the same award 12 months ago in Newcastle.

BNI (Business Network International) is the largest face-to-face business networking referral organisation in the world, with more than 235,000 members in over 8,400 groups operating across 69 countries.
Angela Kinghorn, executive director at BNI Scotland North, said: “We’re thrilled to win this accolade for the second year in succession. It’s a tremendous achievement for every member and shows we’re continuing to head in the right direction.
“I’m constantly amazed at the extent to which companies across the north are committed to engaging with their wider business community. It’s great to offer a strong platform to help them build relationships and grow.”
Meanwhile, Angela is one of only six people to be appointed to the UK and Ireland Franchise Advisory Council which forms a link between members and the BNI UK and Ireland national executive.
Latest figures reveal BNI Scotland North generated £17m of business for members in 2017. Aberdeen and Highlands is part of BNI Scotland North.
There are seven BNI networking groups in Aberdeen, and further meetings in Inverness, Elgin, Inverurie and Montrose. A new group in Peterhead, called BNI Target, is seeking additional members after launching this month with 23 businesses already on board.
BNI Scotland North also has business networking groups in Perth, Dunfermline and two additional groups in Dundee, with a new group also being established in Glenrothes.
Scotland North members have access to more than 13,000 members in the UK and Ireland. BNI was founded by Dr Ivan Misner in the United States in 1985.
In 2017, BNI passed more than 683,000 referrals worth over £520 million in the UK and Ireland alone.
Members pay a joining fee and a monthly fee to be part of a group, which holds a weekly meeting. BNI Scotland North, which was acquired by husband and wife Bryan and Angela Kinghorn in September, 2016, has more than 400 members.
