New Aberdeenshire gin launched to add to NE collection

Aberdeen-based Raven Spirits Ltd. has launched a new premium gin, adding to the rich variety of Aberdeenshire’s small batch gins.

Raven Gin has been created by North-East brothers, Callum and Peter Sim. The company will initially offer two products: a signature Thought and Memory expression and a limited release Founder’s Edition.

Peter Sim has worked within the hospitality industry for over 30 years, having been instrumental in setting up whisky and gin bars at several high-end establishments. Under his independent business, Peaty Nose Ltd. – a malt whisky and Scottish spirit training consultancy – he organises tastings and is the founder of local Gin Clubs. Peter was also one of the organisers of this year’s Gin Festival: North East.

Callum Sim brings his business experience to the venture from over two decades as a lawyer in the energy industry, while the passion for Scottish spirits he shares with brother offers a new direction for their skill sets.

The locally produced gin is inspired by Norse mythology; Odin’s Ravens, Huginn and Muninn, (Old Norse meaning Thought and Memory). After a year in the making, Raven Gin will be available this week.

Callum commented: “Peter’s expertise, alongside my business experience, have been a great pairing. I admit, it’s been a long process – from determining the brand to the product creation – but it has been well worth it.”

Of the launch, Peter said: “Having been involved in the hospitality and alcohol trades for many years, I have seen first-hand the boom in the popularity of Scottish gins. With my experience, I’m often asked why I haven’t yet produced a gin but, like Callum, I wasn’t prepared to launch anything that wasn’t absolutely perfect – and that takes time!

“We’re incredibly excited about the launch, while the Founder’s Edition is limited, I am sure Thought and Memory will quickly establish itself as a modern classic gin.

“Of course, it means a lot to us to be able to produce this locally at a Deeside-based distillery. We’ve really focussed on the taste ‘journey’ and are confident that we’re launching a fantastic product to market.”

Callum reflected “For us, it’s about authenticity and quality. No gimmicks, just a damn fine dram that I am proud to put my name to.”

Raven Gin is distilled with six traditional botanicals with a sweet citrus hint of delicate mandarin, delivering a balanced premium dry gin. In strength, Thought and Memory comes in at 45% ABV; while the limited release Founder’s Edition offers a stronger, smoother 47% ABV. Plans are in place for a number of seasonal expressions and a Navy Strength at around 57.2% ABV.
