AN Aberdeen businesswoman has been inspired to launch a brand-new awards scheme to honour some of the community initiatives which have been spearheaded by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Prospect 13 managing director Cerri McDonald has launched the New Day Awards after being moved by the wealth of projects, campaigns and programmes which have sprung up to give back to communities throughout her home city and beyond during the current crisis.

Nominations and voting will take place this week and will include sport and leisure, food and drink, third sector, professional services and media.

Explaining the motivation behind the launch, Cerri, who established the virtual marketing support consultancy in 2018, said: “In the midst of adjusting to these grey times, we wanted to shine a light on the many people and organisations who have gone above and beyond to support the local community.  They have really dug deep, thought outside the box and put their skills and resources to good use encouraging, motivating and touching many along the way.

“We have shortlisted our favourite inspirational community projects but we can’t do it alone and we need people to tell us about the activities out there that have struck a chord so that we can recognise as many positive acts of kindness and support as possible.”

Nominations will end on Friday with nominees being announced on Saturday.
