A new coffee shop and roaster has opened its doors in Aberdeen.

Figment, located on Countesswells Road in the city’s West End, is the brainchild of local businessman, Neil Glover, who has combined his love of coffee with a real passion for how it is made.

Mr Glover launched the business having identified a gap in the Aberdeen market for an artisan coffee shop which roasts its own coffee.

He has teamed up with the 2014 winner of the BBC programme ‘Masterchef: The Professionals’, Jamie Scott, who has developed Figment’s menus and will be providing training for all staff.

Mr Scott own and runs The Newport Restaurant in Newport-on-Tay, which has two AA rosettes for culinary excellence. Working with Mr Glover and his team, Mr Scott has provided intensive staff training, ensuring that the food on offer compliments the coffee that is served.

Mr Glover said: “Our mission is to perfect the basics and bring great coffee to Aberdeen. I have visited numerous coffee shops all over the world and am looking to bring back the best of what I’ve learned to the North-east.”

In keeping with this view, Mr Glover has flown over a Speciality Coffee Association lead instructor from  Dallas to train the barista staff in the art of coffee making.

Mr Glover continued: “As well as investing in the premises and the machinery, we’ve also put a huge amount of time into our staff. We have a fantastic team working for us and I can’t wait to introduce Figment to Aberdeen.

Mr Scott said: “You can expect to see amazing local, seasonal produce cooked with love and passion. We’ll be offering breakfast and lunch and there might be other options in the future too.

“I’ve been up to Aberdeen many times now and everything is going really well. I’ve never spoken to someone who has the same passion I have for food as Neil has for coffee. We bounce off each other really well and his excitement for coffee and my excitement for food is definitely a good pairing.”
