Azets has promoted Aberdeen-based Audit Director Matthew Allan to Partner as the firm looks to strengthen its leadership team and accelerate growth across the North East of Scotland.
Allan, who has more than 16 years’ experience in accountancy, joined Azets in June 2021 as an associate director before becoming Audit Director in 2022. His promotion marks a significant step in his career and reflects the firm’s continued investment in its Aberdeen office.
A former pupil of Robert Gordon’s College and graduate of the University of Aberdeen, Allan brings extensive expertise in both UK GAAP and IFRS technical reporting standards. He became a registered auditor two years ago, gaining Responsible Individual (RI) status recognised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS), enabling him to sign audit reports.
In his new role as Audit Partner, Allan will oversee audit, assurance and financial reporting services for a diverse portfolio of clients ranging from owner-managed businesses to multinational organisations. His sector experience spans energy and marine services, food and drink, manufacturing and construction, with clients across the UK and internationally. He also specialises in grant claim assurance reporting and independent audit examinations for charities.
Speaking about his promotion, Allan said: “My new role gives me even bigger scope to help build the profile of Azets in the North East of Scotland. Success is always about delivering real value to our clients by applying our skills and expertise and I’m grateful for the enhanced opportunity to do just that.
“I aim to continue to provide clients with the peace of mind of knowing they are operating in the most efficient and profitable way possible while ensuring they are compliant with the relevant laws and regulations.”
The promotion follows the recent appointment of Brian McMurray, formerly Finance Director at global procurement company ESWL, who joined Azets as a Partner within its 35-strong Aberdeen Accountancy and Business Advisory Services (ABAS) team.
David Booth, Regional Managing Partner for Azets in Aberdeen, said Allan’s promotion highlights both his contribution to the firm and its broader growth trajectory.
He said: “Together with Brian’s recent appointment, Matthew’s promotion to Audit Partner further strengthens our senior team as we continue to invest in the North East and support our clients’ ambitions.
“Matthew’s promotion is a well-deserved recognition of the significant contribution he has made to our clients and our business since joining Azets. His technical expertise, commercial approach and commitment to delivering high-quality service have made him a valued member of our audit team.
“His appointment comes at the end of another exceptionally strong financial year for our Aberdeen office, reflecting the continued growth of our business, the strength of our client relationships and the dedication of our people.”
