TODAY (July 5) marks the official launch of The Reuse Shop at Aberdeen City Council’s Hazlehead Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC), selling good quality, used household items and furniture donated by residents.
The shop was officially opened by Aberdeen City Council’s Operational Delivery Committee Convenor Miranda Radley, who cut a ribbon sourced from reused materials, and was joined by attendees from Zero Waste Scotland, and SUEZ, who operate the site on behalf of the Council, to view the shop and the many donations which have already been made.
The Reuse Shop, which was established with the support of funding from the Scottish Government’s Recycling Improvement Fund which aims to improve recycling infrastructure across Scotland, will be open from 10am to 4pm Thursday to Monday, and will contribute to the Council’s and SUEZ’ goals to reduce waste and support a circular economy.
As well as selling good-quality, pre-loved items, much of the shop’s interior and its exterior ‘living wall’ have been made with re-used items, such as reclaimed shelves and pallets. If successful, it is hoped additional shops may be opened at other sites in the city to build a network of re-use opportunities across Aberdeen.

The new Reuse Shop at Hazlehead Recycling Centre is open five days a week at the following opening hours: Thursday to Monday 10.00 – 16.00.
Residents can drop-off their donations for the shop at Hazlehead or one of the reuse containers located at Tullos and Bucksburn household waste recycling centres in Aberdeen, with the following items currently accepted:
Children’s toys and equipment, Fixtures and fittings, Furniture with fire labels, Garden/DIY, Kitchenware, Sports, Electrical, Bric-a-brac / Miscellaneous
SUEZ recycling and recovery UK operate the waste and resources contracts on behalf of Aberdeen City Council, managing 115,000 tonnes of municipal waste from more than 200,000 residents.
By selling good quality reused items on site, an estimated 200 tonnes of material will be diverted from waste each year, reducing energy and carbon usage.
