A new route from London Southend Airport to Aberdeen will launch this summer, providing a link from the capital to the Royal Family’s Scottish holiday destination of choice.

The route operated by Loganair launches on May 12, and will fly up to 17 times a week to the North East.

Balmoral Castle is just an hours’ drive from Aberdeen and is where the Royal Family has been enjoying the tranquillity and fresh mountain air of the Cairngorms for over 100 years. In a list of 20 of the most relaxing holiday destinations in the world by travel publication Rough Guides, the Cairngorm National Park ranks as one of the best.

To the north and east of the National Park lies one of the greatest coastlines in the world. A 165-mile-long strip which includes golden sandy beaches, hidden caves and rugged cliffs. Described by National Geographic as ‘one of the world’s outstanding coastlines’ thanks to its areas of natural beauty, featuring puffins, seals and dolphins, set against an unblemished backdrop of big skies and deep blue seas. Small traditional fishing villages punctuate the coastline, built between the sea and cliffs.

Its beauty is something that has not gone unnoticed, and earlier this year The New York Times named the Aberdeen area in a list of 52 places to go in 2019, the only place in the UK to make the cut.

Chris Foy, chief executive of North-east tourism agency VisitAberdeenshire said, “Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire is a stunning area with so much to offer visitors, from our glorious natural landscape and rich history to enviable local food and drink. The new Loganair route will make exploring our compact North-east corner of Scotland easier than ever. We’re a destination that offers the ultimate escape from the crowds that has kept the British Royal family coming back for over a century, and we look forward to welcoming many new visitors from London and East Anglia using the Southend route.”

Kay Ryan, commercial director of Loganair said, “We’re delighted to launch this service, which will improve connectivity between Aberdeen and London. As European Airline of the Year, Loganair is a perfect match for London Southend, Which? Magazine Best Airport in London, and we look forward to working together to provide a convenient, flexible and well-connected service for customers, particularly those for whom business travel to London is a necessity. All tickets include 20kg of complimentary hold luggage and in-flight refreshment, the only airline flying from Scotland to London to offers these benefits, and passengers are eligible to join Loganair’s loyalty programme Clan Loganair.”
