Aberdeen International Airport is set to gain two new direct flight routes to popular Spanish destinations Barcelona and Mallorca, significantly expanding its international offerings. Low-cost carrier easyJet will operate these summer services, commencing in Spring 2027.

The new connection to Barcelona holds particular significance as it represents the first direct air link ever established between Aberdeen and the Catalan capital. Jonathan Ford, Portfolio Manager at AGS Airports, which operates Aberdeen International Airport, described the Barcelona route as “particularly exciting”, highlighting its role in “opening up a fantastic new destination for travellers across the north-east of Scotland.”

Flights from Aberdeen to Barcelona are scheduled to commence on 31 March 2027, operating twice weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The Mallorca service will follow, launching on 3 May 2027, with flights running bi-weekly on Thursdays and Sundays.

This expansion underscores easyJet’s continued investment in Aberdeen, building on previous additions such as services to Paris Charles de Gaulle and Belfast International. The airline aims to provide customers in Scotland with greater opportunities for direct international travel from their local airport.

Kevin Doyle, easyJet’s UK Country Manager, emphasised the strategic importance of the Scottish market:

“Scotland has always been an important market for easyJet and by providing even more new routes, we’re making it easier for customers across Scotland to connect to more of Europe, and easier for international visitors to explore even more of what Scotland has to offer.”

“Affordable, direct flights from local airports with low-cost carriers like easyJet is what makes the benefits of air travel for many possible, and so it is important that Scotland remains a competitive and affordable place for airlines to invest in connectivity to support tourism and economic growth across Scotland for both its people and for its businesses.”

Mr Ford reiterated the anticipated popularity of the new routes, noting that “Both Barcelona and Mallorca are proven favourites with UK holidaymakers, and we have no doubt these routes will prove hugely popular with passengers looking for more choice and convenient access to some of Europe’s most sought-after destinations.” He added that easyJet’s sustained growth at Aberdeen signifies “a strong vote of confidence in the market and further strengthens the range of international connectivity available from our airport.”

For travellers seeking comprehensive holiday arrangements, easyJet holidays offers package options inclusive of flights, handpicked hotels, 23kg of luggage, and transfers for beach destinations such as Mallorca.
