After years of anticipation and significant investment, the much-awaited golf course at Ury Estate in Aberdeenshire has officially announced its opening date, offering a major boost to the local sporting scene.

Ury Estate’s transformation into a top-tier golf destination is nearing completion, following a £17 million loan that secured the project’s final construction phase. The course, set amid the estate’s historic landscapes, is expected to draw golf enthusiasts from across Scotland and beyond, strengthening Aberdeenshire’s reputation as a desirable golfing location.

Developed with input from one of golf’s most respected figures, the new layout showcases high standards of design and playability. The parkland course weaves through ancient woodland and offers striking views of Ury Castle, ensuring golfers will enjoy both the sporting challenge and natural beauty. The course’s designer enjoys a legendary status in the sport and has left a distinctive mark on the plans, drawing from extensive experience of course creation worldwide.

According to the latest announcement, some holes are due to open during 2026, with full course completion scheduled for 2027. This phased opening will enable early visitors to experience part of the course while final landscaping and development proceed towards full launch.

The arrival of a new championship-standard course has been warmly received by local business and community leaders, who predict a strong boost to tourism, job opportunities, and the area’s profile. The project forms part of a larger estate development and is already being tipped as a future host for prestigious tournaments and events.

Jack Nicklaus, said: “It always takes a while to create a great golf course, but I believe the Ury Estate course will be worth the wait and also worthy of Scotland and its global reputation for exceptional golf. I am enormously pleased with the design of the course and believe it will be enjoyed by golfers for many generations.”

Fraser McPhail, senior director of debt finance at OakNorth, said: “Ury Estate is an iconic project that embodies the spirit of Scottish heritage and ambition.

“Our funding will help accelerate its transformation into a premier resort and residential community, underpinned by the world-class Jack Nicklaus golf course and the Silver Boar emblem. We’re proud to play a part in this milestone development.”

Golfers of all abilities will soon have the chance to experience a course shaped by one of the game’s most influential names, with facilities tailored to international standards and a layout that complements the historic setting. With its official opening now confirmed, anticipation is building ahead of the Ury Estate course’s long-awaited debut in Scotland’s northeast.
