New venture enables job seekers to score dream career in football

A new Aberdeen-based firm, Jobs In Football, has been launched by local businessman David Smith.

The dedicated online platform, jobsinfootball.com, is specifically focussed towards identifying careers on and off the field, which local individuals might not have ever had the chance to apply for before.

These roles include everything from coaching positions to grounds staff or administrative roles within football clubs throughout Britain. The venture also aims to supply hands-on careers advice from individuals already in these roles to facilitate real chances of employment.

Mr Smith, owner and founder, says, “Growing up I always dreamt about launching a career in the football industry but this was something that was always seen by others as a bit of a pipe dream. Therefore, it’s something that wasn’t encouraged and didn’t happen for me.

“Today, opportunities for individuals, especially young people, still aren’t that varied. In Aberdeen you are almost expected to enter the oil and gas industry, and for many this results in cultural disengagement and more recently, job uncertainty.

“Jobs in Football aims to realistically demonstrate how to turn a hobby and a love for the game into a worthwhile career. We already have a range of industry professionals on board to provide job seekers with hints and tips for interviews and advice about how to stand out in a competitive marketplace.

“We stand firm in the belief that if you find a job within an industry you already have a love for, you will be more engaged and excited about career prospects for the future. Many individuals dream of being professional footballers, but for those that don’t make it, we wanted to show that it doesn’t have to be the end of the dream. There is a wide range of jobs available within the industry at entry level and within more senior roles for anyone keen on changing their career direction.”

Current listed jobs include careers such as HR manager at Manchester United and Sessional Coach at Chelsea Football Club.
