LOCAL startup the Female Founder Squad, created by Zoe Evans, is one of the organisations being supported by the Scottish Government Ecosystem Fund in connection with the Scottish Technology Ecosystem Review to create new and diverse events, experiences, and networks that will create the best possible environment for Scottish tech startups to succeed.

As part of this effort, Evans has launched the Women in Tech Aberdeen Meetups along with other female founders & women in tech to curate a diverse and vibrant community throughout northeast Scotland.  This month they will welcome New York-based entrepreneur and global speaker Jennifer Iannolo to their next event on Wednesday, 16 March at the ONE Tech Hub.

The initiative is part of the recommendation from the Scottish Tech Ecosystem Funds recommendation to improve the learning environment of Scottish tech startups through peer learning and exposure to international expert speakers.

Jennifer is the founder of IMPERIA, a global innovation incubator for women out to change the world. She also travels the world speaking about social impact, resilience, and leadership, and is a featured expert on women’s entrepreneurship for the US State Department. She has spoken at venues like the United Nations and Harvard, and in countries from Finland to Nepal to foster entrepreneurship initiatives with women of all ages. Jennifer is also a lifelong entrepreneur, and creator of the world’s first food podcast channel in 2006.

Whilst in the city, Jennifer will also be guest lecturer for the Female Founder Squad Startup Academy, a 10-week global programme that enables new and aspiring founders to create and grow their startups.  Furthermore, Jennifer will be one of the guest speakers, along with angel investor Elaine Galston of Investing Women for an evening of “Discussion & Discovery” at The Chester Hotel on female-led angel investing with women from across the city, in association with the Female Founder Squad and TMM Executive.

Zoe said: “We are honoured to have Jennifer as our guest speaker at the various upcoming events throughout the city.  Jennifer has a unique insight into female entrepreneurship and I look forward to her sharing those during our in-depth “fireside chat” that will be taking place in between the networking sessions of Wednesday’s Meetup.  Furthermore having Jennifer speak to the students of the Startup Academy and at the Angel Investing event will be hugely valuable to all, I have no doubt.”

Jennifer added: “Scotland is very near and dear to my heart. My mother is from Inverness, so I love having any reason to visit, but it will be particularly special to have a conversation about women’s entrepreneurship at Aberdeen’s Women in Tech event. It’s time to dive deeper into what it means to create a shift in the world with women at the helm. It will be a great night!”

The Women in Tech Aberdeen event will take place on Wednesday, 16 March, 6pm – 9pm at One Tech Hub in Schoolhill.
