ABERDEEN’S vaccination centre in the Bon Accord Centre is staying put until at least May 2025, as health chiefs extend the lease.
It’s a timely boost to the mall which is only 75% full, according to the Press and Journal’s empty units tracker.
Between 500 and 700 patients usually attend the centre each day, with the health boards winter vaccination programme often meaning it’s at capacity.
“The difference in moving from John Lewis into the centre is chalk and cheese,” according to health board member Jamie Donaldson.
He added: “I couldn’t believe the hustle and bustle that was going on, I was quite taken aback by how much was on offer to our citizens.”
A new name
The centre offers more than just vaccinations. Food parcels are available on site, as is mental health support, while schools can go on educational trips to the facility.
It will now be known as the Aberdeen City Vaccination and Wellbeing Hub.
The former Topshop unit could has also been hailed as “innovative” by Public Health Scotland, with suggestions that more sites located centrally in towns and cities could be launched in the future.
