NHS Grampian underfunded by quarter of a billion

NHS Grampian has missed out on more than £250m of funding while the Scottish Government pumps money into central belt facilities.

According to figures reported in the Press & Journal, NHS Grampian has received £262.1m less than they should have over the past 15 years.

Health boards in Lothian, Fife and Forth Valley were also shortchanged, while Greater Glasgow and Clyde received £743m more than it was due.

The National Resource Allocation formula calculates how funding should spread across the country based on demand for services in each area.

North-east Tory MSP Tess White, the party’s deputy health spokesperson, said: “We aren’t talking about one year, or two. Grampian, my local health board, has been underfunded by £260 million since the SNP got into power.”

Meanwhile, the Scottish Government has invested a record £19.5bn in health and social care this year.
