THE Celebrate Aberdeen Awards 2024 is now open for nominations.

Now in its fifth year, the event recognises and celebrates the positive impact that individuals, organisations and volunteers from across the North-east’s third sector make to thousands of lives across the region.

Submissions are invited for eight categories which include Large and Small Organisation of the Year, Volunteer of the Year and Young Supporter of the Year. Deadline for submitting applications is at 5pm on Monday, August 19 at 5pm with finalists announced on Wednesday, September 18.

Winners will be named at a gala awards ceremony which will be attended by more than 300 people at the Chester Hotel, Aberdeen, on Saturday, October 26.

Thanks to the generosity of the principal sponsors, finalists and supporters will attend the event free of charge.

“The calibre of submissions we receive every year is outstanding and over the years since the awards were first launched, we have celebrated truly outstanding and well deserving finalists and winners,” said Celebrate Aberdeen volunteer Kate Yuill.

“Previous finalists and winners have come from a diverse range of organisations all of whom make such a valuable contribution to the communities they work with. Many are well known, but others have been small and less well known but they make a huge positive impact on so many people, and we love to see them participating in this event.

“We encourage nominations from organisations who have submitted applications but may have been unsuccessful in the past, from those who may not have taken part previously and from previous winners.

The annual Celebrate Aberdeen Awards is completely reliant on the generosity of sponsors and without their financial support and the hard work of a small team of volunteers, the event would not happen.

This year’s principal supporters are CNR, CNOOC, Harbour Energy, Aberdeen Inspired and CALA Homes, all of whom have supported the event over the years.  There are also opportunities for companies to get involved by sponsoring the various categories and through other sponsorship opportunities.

This is the second event in the 2024 Celebrate Aberdeen calendar.

The Celebrate Aberdeen parade, which is watched by thousands of spectators, will take place on Saturday, August 31, when around 130 organisations will follow a route down Union Street and through the city centre.

First held in 2011, the parade brings together an eclectic and inclusive group of third sector organisations, cultural organisations, youth groups, sports clubs, and music, dance, and entertainment groups. Registration for this year’s event closes on Friday, June 28.

The categories are: Large Organisation of the Year, Small Organisation of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Young Supporter of the Year, Heart of the Community, Team of the Year, Fundraiser of the Year, Campaign/event of the Year
