SUSIE Mountain, accredited family law specialist of Brodies LLP, and based in Aberdeen, has been become a solicitor advocate following an introduction to the court ceremony at the Court of Session, Edinburgh on the 8th September.

Already a family law specialist and author of the book ‘A Practical Guide to Cohabitation and the Law in Scotland”, this new qualification extends Susie’s rights of audience to the Court of Session, the Supreme Court, and the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council and allows her to represent clients in litigated cases of particular difficulty or high value.

Susie is regularly instructed in complex cases incorporating child law, international matters and financial provision on divorce and separation.  Speaking about her new position, Susie said: “While this is a big step forward for my own career, becoming one of only two solicitor advocates in the north-east who specialise in family law means I can represent clients in the highest civil courts in the country. I will also continue to invest in the development of young lawyers entering the profession, by tutoring in the Diploma in Legal Practice as well as mentoring young people through the Career Ready initiative”

Meanwhile, Aberdeen-based Brodies associate, Garry Sturrock has also recently been accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as a child law specialist, making him one of only three lawyers in private practice in Aberdeen with this qualification. Accreditation acts as a hallmark of expertise and recognises lawyers who develop specialist knowledge in a particular area of law. Garry will continue to offer quality child law advice to clients and will be a part of Brodies’ Child Law Hub, due to launch later this year.
