North east Scotland-based IKM Testing UK has been awarded the provision of pre-commissioning services for the Northern Endurance Partnership (NEP) Project being developed on the east coast of England, a major project within the UK’s Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) strategy.

Working with global engineering & construction company Saipem as the main contractor, IKM Testing UK will support the preparation of critical CO₂ transport and storage infrastructure ahead of operation.

NEP is developing onshore and offshore infrastructure needed to transport CO₂ from carbon capture projects across Teesside and the Humber – collectively known as the East Coast Cluster – to secure storage under the North Sea. The infrastructure is crucial to achieving net zero in the UK’s most carbon intensive industrial regions.

Under the contract, IKM will deliver specialist pipeline pre-commissioning services including flooding, cleaning, gauging and hydrotesting. These activities are essential to verifying pipeline integrity and ensuring systems are safe, compliant and fully operational ahead of CO₂ injection.

Barry Summers, Regional Director at IKM Testing UK said, “Pre-commissioning is a critical stage in the delivery of any major pipeline system, particularly for CO₂ infrastructure where safety and integrity are paramount. Our role is to ensure these assets are fully tested, verified and ready for service before operations begin.

Securing this contract reflects the depth of engineering expertise we have here in Aberdeen and the growing role North east Scotland continues to play in delivering large-scale energy transition projects across the UK.”

The contract further strengthens IKM Testing’s position within the expanding carbon capture market and reinforces its growing international relationship with Saipem. The contract supports continued workload across the company’s Engineering and Projects teams in North east Scotland and enhances long-term visibility within the low-carbon infrastructure sector.

IKM Testing UK is a complete service provider for the energy sector, delivering solutions for both traditional and renewable energy markets.
