MENTAL Health Aberdeen (MHA) had planned to spend most of 2020 celebrating 70 years of supporting the mental wellbeing of people in the North-East. The charity had organised several public events to raise funds and awareness for their work, including a corporate golf event, a sponsored walk, and a black-tie quiz night for 300 people. Instead, along with so many other organisations, the charity was forced to put the majority of its fundraising plans on hold because of Covid-19 and lockdowns.
After a wait of almost two years, the postponed events will be taking place across the rest of this year, ensuring that MHA’s 70th anniversary is finally celebrated. The MHAsterminds Black-Tie Quiz Night is the largest of their planned events, and forms a key part of MHA’s fundraising efforts for 2022.

MHAsterminds is taking place at The Chester Hotel on Friday 7th October and oganisers are calling it a quiz night with a difference. Teams from across the North East are invited to come together for a night of fizz, food, and fundraising, as well competing to win top prizes.
This will be the first major fundraising event that the team from MHA have organised by themselves, and they hope it will become an annual fixture in the Aberdeen events calendar. The money raised on the evening are to be shared across the six current projects within MHA, which support the mental well-being of children and adults in Aberdeen City and Shire.
MHA’s Chief Executive, Graeme Kinghorn, said: “I am delighted that MHA will finally get the opportunity to hold ‘MHAsterminds’ this year, more than two years after it was originally planned. We have been very vocal about the fact that mental health support is needed more than ever right now, and waiting lists for the support we can give are growing. So this event is not only to celebrate 70 years of supporting the people of North East Scotland, but it will be a hugely important opportunity for us to raise additional, much-needed funds, that will help us to invest in the resources we need.”
“MHA is a charity that delivers most of its services on a face-to-face basis, and what could be more appropriate than us finally having an evening where local businesses and individuals can join colleagues, clients, customers and friends in the same room, to enjoy a great evening and some good-natured competition.”
