After a short break, one of the North-east’s premiere sports-themed fundraising dinner is back for 2017.
Challenging the sporting knowledge of Aberdeen’s business community; the Simmons & Company International Sportschallenge event aims to raise thousands in financial aid for local causes whilst entertaining hundreds of guests and competitors.
Back for its fifth year, Sportschallenge has so far raised more than £350,000 for organisations such as Friends of Carronhill and The Sandpiper Trust. As teams from businesses across Aberdeen and the North-east seek to compete in the ‘Question of Sport’ style quiz evening, beneficiaries from this year’s event have been confirmed as Maggie’s and Children’s Aid (Scotland), with one additional charity still to be announced.
Taking place on Thursday 14 September within the city, the evening will see teams battle it out across four rounds of sports trivia. Previous events have been hosted by well-known sporting personalities and 2017 will be no exception as Simmons & Company International look to make Sportschallenge 2017 the social event of the year.
“Taking a year out has allowed us to take another look at Sportschallenge and as the local economy steadily starts to rebalance we are looking forward to ensuring the event comes back with a bang,” said Nick Dalgarno, managing director at Simmons & Company International.
“Sportschallenge is an event like no other in the North-east and the generosity shown by individuals, teams taking part and our sponsors means that the evening is always a success in terms of its entertainment value and fundraising. . Although the competition can get quite intense, all competitors demonstrate good sportsmanship as they know the real winners are the charity beneficiaries.
”Sportschallenge has raised a serious amount for local causes and this year we are hoping to take the total to over £400,000. Even in difficult times it’s important to remember why we host this event and for our part, we are delighted to facilitate its 2017 comeback.”
Paula Cormack, Centre Fundraising Manager at Maggie’s Aberdeen, added: “Maggie’s relies entirely on voluntary donations from the local community and fundraising events like Sportschallenge are absolutely vital in ensuring we can continue to offer our unique programme of support to people in the north east facing the challenges of cancer.
“At Maggie’s people can access the practical, emotional and social support, all offered free of charge, that they need to help them through what can be one of life’s most challenging experiences. We are extremely proud and immensely grateful to once again benefit from this exceptional event. ”
