AN ABERDEEN-based specialist surveying company, Survey 3D international (Survey 3Di), is celebrating a bumper first year in business with a seven-figure turnover, major investment and a significant recruitment drive.

Launched 15 months ago by former Scopus directors, Tom Bryce and Alan Bell, Survey 3Di provides innovative dimensional control and laser scanning survey solutions to the oil and gas, petrochemical and nuclear industries.

The firm has reported a turnover of over £1.6 million in their first year, with more than 20 clients on their books, and in excess of 150 projects successfully completed in 2019.

Currently, Survey 3Di employs a team of 20, with plans in the pipeline to double this tally over the coming year.

2019 also saw the firm respond to market demand and open an office in Houston, where they are planning to recruit locally in 2020 to fill a number of positions.

Survey 3Di has also invested more than £400,000 in technology during the last 12 months, developing the most leading-edge surveying software and purchasing state of the art hardware, to offer clients the most accurate ‘as-built’ data on their assets.

Co-director Tom Bryce said: “With over 75 years of combined experience in the dimensional control and laser scanning industry between us, Alan and I knew from the outset that our wealth of knowledge could help clients to complete projects ahead of schedule and on budget. Nonetheless, 2019 smashed all our projections, leaving us well-placed to grow the business further in 2020.

“We are a fully independent dimensional control and laser scanning, specialist.  We do not get involved in the engineering side of the industry, we concentrate purely on providing accurate survey data to the various engineering contractors and operators in the industry.   As a result, we help our clients to reduce project costs with our ‘first-time fit’ philosophy and enhanced safety.”

Co-director Alan Bell added: “While there is a tendency for specialists within the oil and gas sector to adopt a fairly myopic perspective of their own work, we, on the other hand, always look at the bigger picture – analysing how and where we fit in so that we can make projects more streamlined and more effective. Our innovative approach provides real-time understanding of assets, allowing clients to make informed and accurate planning decisions.

“We are thrilled that the industry has embraced the value that our services can add to their business and look forward to growing Survey 3Di’s global footprint over the coming year.”
