ODE attending the renaming ceremony for Excalibur FPSO

ODE senior executives joined Excalibur FPSO asset owners Ping Petroleum UK PLC (“Ping”) and Dagang NeXchange Berhad (“DNeX”) on Tuesday 2nd August for the formal renaming ceremony of the FPSO in the Port of Nigg, Scotland. The FPSO will be ultimately deployed at Ping’s Avalon Development.

The renaming ceremony took place onboard the FPSO, formerly known as the Sevan Hummingbird, safely facilitated by ODE’s lay-up team who were appointed under the Ship Management Service agreement awarded recently to ODE by Ping. Partner companies in attendance included the Global Energy Group.

During the event, attendees toured the FPSO’s facilities and a plaque was unveiled onboard symbolising the FPSO’s transforming identity following its purchase this year by Ping from Teekay Corporation. The FPSO’s refreshed identity will additionally create one of the UK’s first oil and gas facilities powered almost exclusively by an offshore floating wind turbine, when deployed onto the Avalon field.  The upgrade project for the FPSO will include electrification, which will reduce emissions from oil and gas production, while delivering on the commitments of the North Sea Transition Deal.

Sandy Reid, Managing Director of ODE Asset Management, commented: “We are delighted to have been part of the naming ceremony for the Excalibur FPSO. This was an opportune occasion to come together with the vessel owners and partner companies and formally launch this ground-breaking project. As the selected contractor for Ship Management Services, we are proud to be supporting the adaptation of this facility towards an energy transition future, exemplifying how the energy sector can react and respond to changing needs.”
