OFFSHORE Energies UK has welcomed the news that Shell has restarted operations at the Pierce field in the Central North Sea.

Commenting, OEUK’s market intelligence manager Ross Dornan, said:

“We are pleased to hear that operations have restarted at the Pierce field in the North Sea. This a major investment by Shell and the redevelopment of this field is great news for the energy industry and the economy as a whole, as it means the field can produce gas as well as oil for the UK market.

“This additional supply is crucial to the UK’s energy security and reduces our reliance on imports as we transition to net zero.  We need to continue to explore our own waters for new reserves of oil and gas at the same time as we expand and develop low-carbon technologies, to ensure we safeguard the country’s energy needs today and in the future.”
