FOUNDER and chairman of Offshore Wind Consultants Limited (OWC) Ian Bonnon has passed away.

William Cleverly, OWC managing director, said it was with “great sadness” that Mr Bonnon,62, passed away on Monday (Feb 22) after being diagnosed with liver and bone cancer in December last year.

Mr Cleverly said: “Ian was upbeat and positive, whilst trying to support those around him, but sadly the cancer progressed quickly.

“Ian was and will remain a well-respected and much-loved figure in the offshore renewables industry.  He had nearly 40 years’ experience in the offshore wind, oil and gas, marine and subsea cable industries, and he combined his broad knowledge with his own exceptional management style.

“He had his own unique blend of professionalism combined with a mischievous side, which brought a special feeling to those with whom he worked.

“So much more than our managing director and then chairman, he put into action true leadership, mentoring, and brought out the best in people.

“Whilst Ian was OWC’s Chairman, it is his warmth, compassion, kindness and huge charisma for which he will be most remembered.

“He will be greatly missed.”

OWC was founded by Mr Bonnon in 2011 to provide consultancy services to offshore wind farm developers and investors.

Mr Boonon had also set up his own charity, The IDB Charity, which will be continued by his family.
