The inaugural Saltire Energy Paul Lawrie Match Play, part of The Race to Dubai, will take place at Murcar from July 30 to August 2 and will also be shown live on Sky Sports.

Earlier this month, Murcar launched an appeal to find the 300 volunteers required to support the event and ensure it runs smoothly across the week.

Ryder Cup and major champion Paul Lawrie threw his weight behind the campaign, saying: “Volunteers play a crucial role week in, week out on the European Tour to make sure these events run smoothly.

“It’s a great opportunity for the members of Murcar Links Golf Club, or indeed the folk of Aberdeen, to get involved with the event and help us run what I’m sure will be a fantastic tournament.”

The first two key appointments have been confirmed with former Murcar club captains Lindsay Mitchell and Richard Thomson named as Chief Scorer and Chief Marshall respectively.

The recruitment process for the other required volunteers continues and Murcar Links is hoping to attract members not only from within its own club but golf enthusiasts from clubs across the Aberdeenshire region.

Malcolm Gunnyeon, Club Captain of Murcar Links Golf Club, said: “Everyone at Murcar Links is delighted that Lindsay and Richard have agreed to be our Chief Scorer and Chief Marshall this summer.

“Both have a huge enthusiasm for golf, tremendous experience of supporting events and competitions and a wealth of knowledge of Murcar. We’re confident that they’ll do an outstanding job in July and August and thank them for stepping up to the mark.

“Now the efforts continue to attract more volunteers from Murcar and from clubs across the region to help make the first ever Saltire Energy Paul Lawrie Match Play a big success and show people what a great club we have.”
