22/12/2023

THE FURRY, scaly, and feathered residents of Pets’ Corner are getting a Christmas glow-up and groom to look their cutest best for visitors over the festive period.

The facility is one of Hazlehead Park’s most popular attractions and will be open every day over the holidays apart from Christmas Day, Boxing Day, January 1, and January 2.

The animals include emus Collins and Bronte, goats, sheep, chickens, rabbits, Shetland ponies, miniature donkeys, and favourites Dee and Done the meerkats. There is also an enclosed building with fish and reptiles including Vadar the enormous Burmese python.

Amongst the residents at Pets’ Corner, Ruby the British Alpine goat could arguably be  most in the Christmas spirit in her favourite red jacket although Dee and Don the meerkats might be mistaken for Santa’s elves as they tidy up their enclosure.

Aberdeen City Council Net Zero, Environment and Transport convener Councillor Miranda Radley said: “Pets’ Corner is a great place to take the family during the winter holidays as it is not only interactive and informative but has some of the cutest residents of Aberdeen.

“The staff always welcome any questions people may have and look forward to sharing their expert knowledge about these wonderful animals.

“We hope the residents of Pets’ Corner have and ‘furry’ good time this festive season with lots of visitors and some extra treats for Christmas.”

Other animals at the facility include a kune kune pig, geese, turkey, budgies, ducks, guinea fowl, canaries, ferrets, guinea pigs, and alpacas.

Hazlehead Park also has a popular café near Pets’ Corner and is the largest park in Aberdeen at 180 hectares while being one of the oldest and most historical properties in the city. It is a Red Squirrel Conservation Area with lots of walks in and around the park and neighbouring woodlands.

The opening hours for Pets’ Corner from November to March are from 10am to 3.15pm, and it is closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, January 1, and January 2.
